The wood used by Urs W. Maechler has been stocked for at least 20 years. In most cases, he uses wood that has already been stocked for over 50 years.

Finished instruments are either varnished in imitation antique (copied) or in lightly coloured gradations (shadowed).

The varnish is prepared by Urs W. Maechler himself, according to his research on old formulas. It is also aged before application.
